The Inch Park Neighbourhood on the Central Mountain is located south of Mountain Brow, north of Fennell Avenue East between Upper Wellington Street and Upper Wentworth Street.
The majority of the homes in this area were built before 1960, and are primarily single family detached homes. According to the recent census, the typical age range in this neighbourhood is 30-44 years old, with 42% of the homes occupied by families.
Adam Inch (1857-1933) and his wife Jaqueline immigrated from Scotland and purchased 100 acres on Hamilton’s central mountain in 1875. He and his wife built a prosperous farm with orchards and dairy cows on the land. A portion of the land was donated to the City of Hamilton by the Inch Family in 1948 for use as a park. Today it is a mostly residential community with Inch Park, the Arena and the Community named after the Inch Family.
The Inch Park Community even has its own Facebook page.
There is one school in this neighbourhood, George L. Armstrong School and it is located at 460 Concession Street. The school serves around 450 elementary students from the surrounding area.
A new Nora Frances Henderson Secondary School is currently under construction near the southwest corner of Upper Sherman Avenue and Rymal Road and is scheduled to open in September 2020. This new school could potentially change the catchment boundaries for George L. Armstrong, Franklin Road, Pauline Johnson and Ridgemount elementary schools.
If you are interested in a property in this area, please search here for the Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board and here for the Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board to confirm the schools in your catchment.
Located along Upper Wentworth Street, you will find the Pumpkin Patch day care centre. The daycare is run out of the Mount Hamilton Baptist Church. They accept children from the age of 3 months to 12 years and will provide a walking escort to those school aged children that attend George L. Armstrong enrolled in the before and after school programs. I felt very comfortable when my son, Mark attended this daycare as a toddler, it was a friendly, welcoming and safe daycare.
Inch Park Arena at 400 Queensdale Avenue East, opened in 1948, when the Inch family gave part of the family farm to the City for use as a park. The park contains a beach entry swimming pool, tennis courts, accessible baseball diamonds and an indoor ice rink. Inch Park recently made improvements to the park to make it accessible to individuals with a physical disability.
Inch Park Pool was the former home of the Rotary Fishing Derby where the swimming pool was stocked with rainbow trout before the swimming season opened for people with special needs to fish.
After the renovations to the park to provide more accessibility to inclusive programming (including a beach entrance to the pool, wider paved dugouts, a new shade structure/pavilion) the pool is no longer practical for holding the fishing derby, other city pools have taken this event over in recent years.

Along Upper Welllington you will find a variety of unique businesses, restaurants and services:

Along the south-west corner of Inch Park, you will find the Panagia – Dormition of the Theotokos Greek Canadian Orthodox Church of Hamilton and Community. Their programs and events are focused on creating the Orthodox Christian atmosphere and their mission is to create a faith based community built upon the friendships.
The Jolley Cut is a Hamilton Mountain access route that runs from Upper Wellington Street to John Street South at the base of the escarpment. The access connects the mountain to downtown, providing a quick and easy commute to the downtown core.

Mountain Brow Park is a wonderful place on top of the Jolley Cut, which also contains a parking lot and look out spot in any season. They also have their own Facebook Page. This park also contains a path and walkway for pedestrians to go from the mountain to downtown below.
You will still find some back laneways in this neighbourhood in Hamilton, with shared access from the neighbouring homes, these alleys provide access to a rear garage or rear parking in some homes where there is no parking access at the front of the home.

You will find city bus service to and from the area, together with parking structures and street parking, making it very accessible to the Hamilton Community. You can live uptown and commute to a job downtown, without having to pay for parking. This neighbourhood is well known for exceptional public transit – there are several buses from different routes that all travel along this section of Concession Street. In addition to those buses, there are routes along Upper Wentworth St., Upper Wellington St., and Queensdale Ave. E. and of course, it’s just a quick bus ride to Mohawk College along Fennell Ave E.
