Adam Inch (1857-1933) and his wife Jaqueline immigrated from Scotland and purchased 100 acres on Hamilton’s central mountain in 1875. He and his wife built a prosperous farm with orchards and dairy cows on the land. A portion of the land was donated to the City of Hamilton by the Inch Family in 1948 for use as a park. Today it is a mostly residential community with Inch Park, the Arena and the Community named after the Inch Family.

The Inch Park Community even has its own Facebook page.

There is one school in this neighbourhood, George L. Armstrong School and it is located at 460 Concession Street. The school serves around 450 elementary students from the surrounding area.

A new Nora Frances Henderson Secondary School is currently under construction near the southwest corner of Upper Sherman Avenue and Rymal Road and is scheduled to open in September 2020. This new school could potentially change the catchment boundaries for George L. Armstrong, Franklin Road, Pauline Johnson and Ridgemount elementary schools.

If you are interested in a property in this area, please search here for the Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board and here for the Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board to confirm the schools in your catchment.

Located along Upper Wentworth Street, you will find the Pumpkin Patch day care centre. The daycare is run out of the Mount Hamilton Baptist Church. They accept children from the age of 3 months to 12 years and will provide a walking escort to those school aged children that attend George L. Armstrong enrolled in the before and after school programs. I felt very comfortable when my son, Mark attended this daycare as a toddler, it was a friendly, welcoming and safe daycare.

Inch Park Arena at 400 Queensdale Avenue East, opened in 1948, when the Inch family gave part of the family farm to the City for use as a park. The park contains a beach entry swimming pool, tennis courts, accessible baseball diamonds and an indoor ice rink. Inch Park recently made improvements to the park to make it accessible to individuals with a physical disability.

Inch Park Pool was the former home of the Rotary Fishing Derby where the swimming pool was stocked with rainbow trout before the swimming season opened for people with special needs to fish.

After the renovations to the park to provide more accessibility to inclusive programming (including a beach entrance to the pool, wider paved dugouts, a new shade structure/pavilion) the pool is no longer practical for holding the fishing derby, other city pools have taken this event over in recent years.
