The Sherman Cut, connecting uptown and downtown, is accessible through the Eastmount neigbourhood. It is literally carved into the escarpment. The Sherman Cut changes to co-ordinate with the flow of rush hour traffic, making it very unique. In the morning it is one-way going down the escarpment, and during the afternoon rush it is one-way going up to the top of the escarpment. It was named after Clifton and Frank Sherman, who founded Dominion Foundries and Steel (later called Dofasco).
Although not directly in the Eastmount neighbourhood, George L. Armstrong School is a grade school located along Concession Street, as well, Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Elementary School is located on Poplar Avenue. If you are interested in a property in this area, please search here for the Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board and here for the Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board to confirm the schools in your catchment.
Concession Street runs through this neighbourhood and provides local residents with most of their needs, including health and wellness services, beauty salons, retail businesses, amazing restaurants, automotive services, entertainment, financial services and the extensive healthcare offered by the Juravinski Hospital.

Jurvinski Hospital is also located in this neighbourhood and is best known as the hospital for the Regional Cancer Program. In addition to dedicated wards for cancer patients, Juravinski Hospital is also a general medical/surgical hospital with a community Emergency Department.
Jurvinski Hospital was previously known as the Henderson Hospital. This is where I was born in 1969.
You will find the Concession Branch of the Hamilton Public Library at 565 Concession Street. It was first named the Mountain Branch and opened in 1920, being the first branch of the Hamilton Library on the Mountain. After occupying storefront locations for a number of years, a permanent building at the corner of Concession Street and Cliff Avenue was opened in 1949. In 1991, the building was demolished and the current building opened in early 1992. The branch offers materials and programming for children, teens and adults.

At the corner of Upper Wentworth and Concession Street, you will find an example of Street Art, becoming a favourite selfie spot with Hamiltonians. The art is by Freedom Studios the Creative Arts Centre.

Running through the Eastmount Neighbourhood is Queensdale Avenue where you will find a variety of local businesses.
The city bus is also very accessible for those who are looking for a greener way to travel, the HSR provides service along Concession Street, Upper Sherman Avenue, Fennell Avenue East, Queensdale Avenue East and Upper Wentworth.
