The Sherman Cut, connecting uptown and downtown, is accessible through the Eastmount neigbourhood. It is literally carved into the escarpment. The Sherman Cut changes to co-ordinate with the flow of rush hour traffic, making it very unique. In the morning it is one-way going down the escarpment, and during the afternoon rush it is one-way going up to the top of the escarpment. It was named after Clifton and Frank Sherman, who founded Dominion Foundries and Steel (later called Dofasco).

In 1991, the building was demolished and the current building opened in early 1992. The branch offers materials and programming for children, teens and adults.
