The Gibson neighbourhood of Hamilton is a quaint residential area in the heart of Hamilton. Gibson is between Wentworth Street and Sherman Avenue, and located north of Main Street East extending just beyond Barton Street E.

Homes

The neighbourhood consists of a lot of older homes, built in the early 1900’s. When showing homes in the area, I’ll see homes with original hardwood floors, baseboards and trim. Many of the homes have been renovated with modern conveniences while preserving the charm and character of the original details. Some of the larger homes have been separated into multiple units (duplexes, triplexes, etc.) creating more affordable housing for the city.

Accessibility

Gibson is a neighbourhood in Hamilton which is easily accessible by public transit. It is located extremely close to downtown, with several amenities within walking or driving distance.

Travelling east and west through the city from the Gibson neighbourhood is a breeze for avid cyclists in the designated cycling lane on Cannon Street.

The Gibson neighbourhood has many educational opportunities, with both public and private schooling accessible to this community! Schools in the neighbourhood include Cathedral High School, Cathy Wever Elementary School, and many more in the surrounding area!

Kudos to Cathedral’s basketball program. I’ve been extremely impressed by the skills of the athletes during games against my son’s high school team.

Entertainment

The Gibson neighbourhood is the perfect location for sports enthusiasts, being located just a few blocks away from Tim Horton’s Field. For those of you who are new to Hamilton, this is a large stadium where sports and entertainment events are held. It is the home field for the Hamilton Tiger Cats CFL Team!

Nature & Recreation

Gibson is home to a handful of small parks with outdoor sporting abilities. In addition, the neighbourhood is within walking distance to one of the largest green spaces in Hamilton: Gage Park.

Gage Park has tennis Courts, a small pump track, lawn bowling, playgrounds, an amphitheatre and public gardens. In the summer months, The Festival of Friends music festival is held at Gage Park!
