The Driving Park contains several softball fields, lawn bowling, a bandshell, a wading pool with splash pad, sheltered picnic areas, many play structures and swing sets. True to it’s name, the park contains a road that runs around the perimeter, and has ample free parking all around. In winter you can find an outdoor ice rink in the park.
Dundas Driving Park is well known for the annual Victoria Day celebration. Fireworks can be enjoyed from miles around, but the best spot to enjoy the festivities is from the park itself. Over the past few years, attendees have also enjoyed music and food trucks at this event.
The park remains a beautiful place to relax and enjoy the sights and sounds of spring, summer, fall and winter. If you have never visited the Dundas Driving Park, I encourage you to visit this little piece of history.
The Dundas Driving Park was purchased by the Town of Dundas on September 20th, 1886. Prior to that it was owned by Dr. A. Hoford Walker. He had purchased it from his father-in-law, George Rolph. George Rolph was a prominent lawyer and political figure, and he allowed the land to be used by the village for picnics, sports and other activities. On February 7th, 1887, it was proclaimed the Dundas Driving Park in a by-law. George Rolph had passed away in July, 1875, but this piece of land that he established as a Village Green has remained as such ever since.
